Biographical informationKing Chu migrated to Western Australia in July 1881.
He travelled on the 'Clarence Packet' from Fremantle to Dirk Hartog Island with Ah Soor, Ah Hoo (1), Ah Chuck and Ah Phom to work for Aubrey Brown.
During the voyage, on 14 July 1881, King Chu witnessed the murder of Ah Soor by Captain O'Grady and Sidong, a Malay, who beat him with wood and rope and then threw his body overboard. King Chu sailed to Perth to appear as a witness at the trial of O'Grady. King Chu stayed at the Poor House in Perth before moving to Mrs Jackson's lodging house (C).
