Cultural safety

We're committed to making UWA Collected safe and accessible for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Culturally sensitive material

UWA Collected contains:

  • images, voices and names of people who have died
  • items and collections that are culturally sensitive.

Our contributors identify and label culturally sensitive material in their collections. They take appropriate action on individual items to ensure cultural safety. This can include controls to restrict public view, or to give access only to appropriate people or groups.

Sensitive material will say ‘Culturally sensitive’ in search results and item pages. The item page might also contain more detailed advice about it.

Tell us about culturally sensitive material

You can tell us if you find material that is culturally sensitive but is not labelled. You can also tell us about material where we could do more to increase cultural safety. This might include content advice for viewers, restrictions or other access conditions.

To tell us about culturally sensitive material, email collected@uwa.edu.au.

Content advice notice

When you visit the UWA Collected home page for the first time, we show a cultural advice notice. It includes a link to this page for more information about cultural sensitivity in our collections.
