Biographical informationPercy Fong Sam was born in Broome on 18 February 1929. He was the son of Fong Sam and Gracie Fong Sam.
He travelled overseas with his father, mother and siblings from April 1936 and returned with his mother and three sisters in October 1937. His father had returned in November 1936 and his sister Amy appears to have remained in China as her CEDT was extended to April 1946.
In 1948, Percy applied for and was granted an Australia passport to visit China for a six-month holiday. (Digitised NAA File: E601, I1948/76, Item ID 3353111).
The State Library holds an oral history interview with Percy (OH463, transcript in 'Documents' below). Percy recounts early family life and being one of four boys and four girls in the family.
