Biographical informationRuby Lee Wood was born 1904 in Perth, daughter of Lee Wood and Hop Lin Jong.
She grew up at the family home in 11 Tiverton Street, Perth. In 1923 Ruby worked for Mrs S. Wilson who had a ladies’ drapery at 191 Beaufort Street, but she set up as an independent dressmaker in November that year.
She married Leong Yen (also known as Ah Leong Sing) on 18 June 1924. George Way acted as matchmaker. The couple lived at 11 Tiverton Street with Ruby's family.
Ruby was ill in August 1924 and underwent an operation. In January 1925 she was admitted to hospital for another operation, this time to remove her appendix. Ruby disappeared on 13 July 1925. Ten days later her body was found in the Swan River. Leong Yen was tried for her murder and found guilty of manslaughter.Date of birth1904Date of death13 July 1925
