Biographical informationYuen Hoy Poy was born in Cheung Kok Village in China in about 1872.
He migrated to Australia in 1894 and married Mary Brewer in 1910. He was father of Doreen Sadie, born 1911, Elvie, born 1912, Clyde, born 1913, Renie, born 1915, Bruce, born 1916 and Royce, born 1921. They lived in the Avenue, Nedlands.
He was a manager at the See Wah & Co Furniture Factory. The factory was located in Dyer St, West Perth, then Railway Parade West Perth from 1916.
In 1919 he built a new furniture factory in James St, Perth, which was burnt down some time between 1929 and 1932.
In October 1933 he visited China, returning to Perth in February 1934.
Yuen Hoy Poy was an active member of the Chung Wah Association and a member of the Executive Committee for many years.
He left WA permanently in May 1936 and died in his home village: Cheung Kok, Chungshan, on 23 July 1954 (M). He has a memorial stone at Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth.
