Biographical informationChoong Kim (aka Choong Toon) was born in Canton on 25 November 1869. He migrated to Western Australia in October 1887 (although he stated 1889 in 1939). He left a wife, Tong Loy (b. 1875) in Canton. He was five feet nine and a half inches in height.
He worked as a shop keeper and partner in the firm Kwong Hong Shing & Co, 404 Murray Street, Perth, in 1902. He worked in Hop Hing's store, 132-134 James Street, Perth, in 1916.
He travelled overseas two times: April 1902 to March 1903; March 1910 to June 1912; he applied for a CEDT in 1916 but it was withheld.
In 1945 he was recorded as the proprietor of the store which was then at 124 James Street, Perth. He attempted to employ Yeon Wan Fart as a shop assistant around 1946/47. Records from this appeal indicate he had previously operated the store without assistance but, given his advancing years, sought additional assistance.
He died at the Mount Hospital on 5 February 1950.
