Biographical informationCHONG WOON (aka Thomas Chong) was born in about 1835 in Canton, China. His father is named as Hong Pein and his mother as Sing Tye [or Tei]. He migrated to Australia to work in the Victoria Goldfields in the early 1870s or earlier.
He married Emma Branson in 1875 in Rushworth, Goldfields, Victoria (1875/397). They had at least eight children, all born in Rushworth, Victoria.
He worked as a market gardener.
Emma moved to Western Australia before 1908 and took at least three children with her:
1) CHONG, Gertrude Victoria (b. 1878, Rushworth, Victoria)
2) CHONG, John William (b. 1890, Rushworth, Victoria)
3) CHONG, James Palmer (b. 1894, Rushworth, Victoria)
Thomas remained in Victoria with his other children.
Thomas passed away and he was interred in the Rushworth Cemetery on 25th April 1911. Probate was granted on 16th June 1911.
