Biographical informationCHONG, John William McGregor was born in 1911 in Rushworth, Victoria, Australia. He was known as Jack. He was the son of Chong John William and Charlotte Alice MacGregor.
He worked as a miner at Big Bell and lived in Youanmi.
He died a day after a car accident in 1937, 32 miles from Mount Magnet on the Youanmi road when a front tyre blew out on a bend in the road. The driver, Frank Taylor, was only slightly injured. Chong was dazed and complained of a mild pain in his side, but died in Youanmi hospital the following day (Geraldton Guardian and Express 22/01/1938, pg. 4).
