Biographical informationShem Suey Land (aka Daisy) was the daughter of Quan Ah Sam and his second wife, Jan. She was born at Hay Lane, off Little Bourke street, Melbourne, on July 15, 1890 (BDM 1890/34269).
When she was seven years old the family travelled to Canton where Suey Land and her mother remained. Suey Land returned to Australia per 'Alban' in 1913. On her arrival she was declared to be an illegal immigrant and was to be sent back to China. Her father obtained a writ of Habeus Corpus to enable her to stay.
In 1914 she married James Tye Din In Melbourne (BDM 1914/137). They had six children:
1) George William Tye Din & 2) Herbert James Tye Din (Twins), born 1916
3) Douglas Haig Jen Wah Tye Din, born 1918
4) Allan Edward Chuck Wah Tye Din, born 1920
5) Margaret Chinn Oy Tye Din, born 1922
6) Victor Wah Yeen Tye Din, born 1924.
Her husband James died in 1966 and she died the following year in Melbourne, 1967.
