He was assaulted and injured in February 1911 by Fong Kim. Fong Kim was fined for the assault. Ah Quong was said to be a man "of very bad character and who has many convictions against him".
In January 1912 Ah Quong was serving a prison sentence for larceny [theft] in Roebourne Goal. After being convicted, Ah Quong alleged that Fong Kim was a prohibited immigrant and had aided Quong Fong and Quong Ying, employees of See Sing & Co. Roebourne, to enter the state illegally. This set off a large investigation. It was suspected that Quong Fong and Quong Ying might have been two employees named Carson Wille and Sam C, but no evidence could be found to support this.
