Biographical informationSeptimus Burt (1847-1919) was the son of Chief Justice Sir Archibald Paull Burt and his wife Louisa Emily, née Bryan. He was born on 25 October 1847 at St Kitts, West Indies. He was a lawyer, politician and grazier. He was educated at Melksham, Wiltshire, England, and from 1861 at Bishop Hale's school in Perth. After serving as an articled clerk to George Frederick Stone, Burt was admitted to the Bar in 1870.
He became a nominated member of the Legislative Council in 1877.
In 1877 he joined John, Alexander and David Forrest on Minderoo Station, up a lease of 590,000 acres on the Ashburton River. Other pastoral properties of which Burt became part-owner included Kadji Kadji, Brick House, Yinnethana, Red Hill and Minne Creek.
