DescriptionA cafe run by the Wong family at 197 William Street, Perth.
The Cafe was established in 1929 by Felix Wong.
After Felix's death, the cafe was taken over by his sons, Peter and Fred.
When Felix died in 1935, he left a debt of around 500 pounds for his young sons to repay. They kept the cafe going for several years at a small profit as well as repaying debts owed. In addition, the sons sent money home to their mother in China.
Wong Sue was the proprietor by mid-1943 (and possibly as early as 1940). He was served various notices under the City health by-laws and he was also convicted under liquor licensing laws in 1943. (Mirror, 31 July 1943, p. 16). Cafe Canton was popular with US and Dutch service personnel during WWII. Wong Sue turned the Cafe into a Herbalist store in the 1950s.Address197,William Street,PerthLocation[1]
