Biographical informationWong Charlie Bain Quan Wong was born on 11 November 1924 in Broome, Western Australia. He was the son of Felix Wong and Wong Lee See.

He left Western Australia for China with his mother and brother, Fred Bain Quan Wong, in February 1926 per SS Minderoo.

His father, Felix, sent several photographs of Charlie to the Collector of Customs over the years (in 1929 and 1932) with the view to aiding extensions to his CEDT. Sending the photographs was also a clear indicator that Felix intended for all his sons to have an Australian education.

After Felix died in 1935, Charlie's brother Peter continued to seek an extension to the CEDT. Approval was granted, but before Peter could confirm travel arrangements the escalating situation in China delayed travel plans. Charlie arrived in Fremantle in November 1939 per MV Gorgon.

At the age of 18 and 2 months he enlisted in the Australian Army (Service number: WX42258). In 1943 he was living at 50 Waverley Street, Subiaco. He served in various capacities for the Army in places such as Nungarin, Claremont and Guildford.
