Biographical informationSee Quing (aka Ah Kwong) was born in July 1878 [or 1883 stated in 1924] in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in July 1896 [or 1899 stated in 1924].
In a 1924 Statutory Declaration and subsequent investigation, he stated that he started working for Mr Jim Clark of Dalgety & Co., as a cook and waiter when he first arrived and worked there for three years. He then worked as a cook for C.H. Warley & Co, Market Street, Fremantle, for seven years. He then worked as a market gardener in Jarrahdale for four and half years, Kalamunda for three years and Darlington for 3 years. In 1916 to 1917 he worked for Hi Lory as a market gardener, then for C. Attwell, Coogee [he denied this later], until 1919 then for Chin Hop & Co., Market Street, Fremantle.
In 1924 he worked on a South Perth market garden.
In 1924, he was suspected of being a stowaway, having migrated illegally within the last seven years. There was a detailed enquiry but the Collector of Customs was unable to prove wrongdoing. The Collector of Customs considered charging See Quing (Ah Kwong) and Hassan Dicton with perjury for making a false statement regarding a Certificate of Exemption for the Dictation Test (NAA Item ID: 43661).
Some of testimonies in the case suggest that See Quing and Ah Kwong are different people and that Ah Kwong had taken on the name and immigration details of See Quing. Other testimonies conflict with this.Other nameSee Quing (differentiated name)AH KWONG (using the name of)Date of birthJuly 1878
