LING ON Charlie

Description

Biographical informationLing On Charlie (aka Yick On Charlie, aka Ah Gow) was born in July 1856. He migrated to Western Australia in May 1874. He was five feet six and a half inches in height.

He was reported to have had two wives in China. He was the father of Ah Yong (5), born 1886 and Ah Ping (11), born in 1887. They came to Western Australia from China with their father in 1902 on the SS Minilya (A). He was the cousin of Pan Kee, Ah Sing (4), Ah Ling (1) and See Kee.

He worked as a partner in Ah Ling & Co, 127 Barrack Street, Perth, in 1901. He worked in the Shun Chong shop at 815 Hay Street, Perth, in 1916. He returned to the Barrack Street store in 1919. In 1920 he worked as a storeman in W. S. Goon & Co. at 136 James Street, Perth.
