Music history
brought to life
The Callaway Centre is a vibrant archive and research centre for music, music education, musicology, performance practice and history, broadcasting, arts and culture.
It is home to a number of unique music-related collections comprising archives, cultural material and objects of Western Australian origin as well as national and international. There are personal papers of notable musicians, performers and educators, as well as original scores and manuscripts, sound recordings, photographs, organisational archives, personal mementos and monographs.
A major collection is the Australian Performing Arts Collection created by the collecting passions of Australian sound archivist Peter Burgis over a 50 year period. It includes the earliest forms of sound recordings from piano rolls and phonograph cylinders through to vinyl records and CDs. You'll also find biographical information on artists, catalogues, magazines, posters and programs.
The Callaway Centre is part of the UWA Conservatorium of Music.
