Biographical informationLionel Samson, pioneer and merchant, arrived in Western Australia in 1829 per 'Calista'. He took up land in Perth and Fremantle and set up business as a wine and spirit merchant, importer and auctioneer. He also had interests in whaling.
In 1842 he married Frances Levi in England. The couple had three sons and three daughters.
Samson was well known as a successful business man in both Perth and Fremantle. He was a member of the Fremantle Town Trust and a nominee in the Western Australian Legislative Council in 1849-56 and 1859-68.
He died on 15 March 1878.
