Biographical informationEmily Antoinette Ho-Son was born in Noumea, New Caledonia on 28th June 1879. She was the daughter of Ho-Son Alexis (born Canton China) and Martha Combe (born France). She was therefore half-Chinese but was French by nationality. She migrated to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia per "Natal" aged 8 in 1887 with her family.
She married Charles Lums on 11 February 1903 in Sydney. They moved to Perth in 1907. They had a son, Charles Hoson Stanley Lums who was born in 1911 (BDM WA, 1911/100130).
Charles and Emily established a successful grocer shop in Emily's name (E.A. Lums & Co.) at 449 Hay Street in about 1909. They later moved the shop to larger premises at 433-435 Hay Street, Subiaco.
In 1965 she was living at 7 Axon Street, Subiaco when she applied to become a naturalised Australian. Her application was approved.
