Wong Bue's Market Garden, South Perth - Victoria Park

Description

DescriptionWong Bue's Market Garden was located in South Perth - Victoria Park. It operated from at least 1916 until 1951. He may also have had another market garden in Burswood in 1919 and 1920.

From 1916 until 1934 Wong Bue's Market Garden is listed in the South Perth Rates Books as being at 38H(Lot 101) Manning Estate. This was in the approximate area where Heppingstone Street is today. In 1925 the South Perth Rates book records a second location slightly further west on the "Courthope Estate". This was Lot 208, where Hurlingham Road is today. Both locations were expropriated in 1934 to make way for the Hurlingham Polo grounds.

Wong Bue and his brother, Wong Chew, then moved to Lot 7 on Suburban Road. They were still in this same area in 1951 when they were evicted again clear that section of the foreshore from Chinese market gardens so that it could be let to "sporting bodies".
