FONG Oswald Sydney

Biographical informationOswald Sydney Fong (known as “Ossie”) was born on 27 September 1915 at Geraldton, the eldest son of Sydney Fong and Ellen Louisa Fong (nee Ah Moy).

Ossie attended Scotch College, Perth in 1931 and gained his Junior certificate in that year.

He worked in the family business, Sydney Fong and Co. and after Sydney Fong’s death in 1955 managed the store with his brother Athol (Chummy). Ossie managed the Grocery and alcohol section and Chummy managed the Green Grocery side of the shop.

He married Ailza Joy Lim Joon on 24 Sep 1949 at the Toorak Presbyterian Church in Melbourne and they had two daughters.

He was a popular member of the golf, tennis and later lawn bowls clubs, and he enjoyed his time at Rotary, Masonic Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce.

He died at Geraldton on 7 November 1974 and is buried at Utakarra Cemetery.
