Biographical informationEllen Louisa Ah Moy Ng, generally known as Nellie, was born on 3rd November 1894 in Ringarooma District, Tasmania. She was the fourth child (of eight children) of Ah Moy Ng (born May 1836 in Toishan China and died 5 August 1908 in Ruby Flat, Tasmania) and Hong Lee Chee (or Shee) (born 1867 in Canton, China and died 9 June 1954 at New Norfolk, Tasmania). Her father was a store-keeper in Victoria and a tin miner in Tasmania.
She grew up in Tasmania. She was five feet in height.
She married Sydney Fong on 2 December 1914 at St. Peter's Anglican Church, East Melbourne. They had seven children. They resided at 76 Durlacher Street, Geraldton, in 1916 (B). She travelled with Sydney to China from April to August 1933 and from February to July 1936. Their 1936 journey was to attend Irene Fong's wedding in Canton.
She died in Perth in 1939 and is buried at Utakarra Cemetery Geraldton.
At the time of the death her children were listed as Oswald (b. 1915), Melvin (b. 1916, living in England in 1939), Dellace (b. 1918, Mrs H. Lums), Joyce (b. 1922), Athol (b. 1923, living in Hong Kong in 1939), Colin and Shirley. All Ellen and Sydney's children were born in Geraldton.
