Biographical informationMargaret Cameron employed Chui A Leng as a nurse in Broome in 1889.
Her husband, A. Cameron, was the Superintendent of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company. He applied for permission for his wife to bring a Chinese nurse with her when she travelled from Singapore back to Broome in mid-1899. Permission was granted and the nurse, Chiu A Leng, arrived by the SS Saladin in July 1899. The expectation was clear that the Cameron's would return Chiu A Leng to Singapore at the end of her contract (around one year).
