In 1881 he married Adeline Matilda Dewar (1861-19470, the daughter of. of John and Selina (nee York). They had at least six children: Reuben Bernard Clayton (b.1882), Iva Agnes (b.lS83), Joshua Harold (b.1885), Selina Hope (b.1884), Allie, Kathleen Daisey Pearl (b.1894). Moore River, farmer and grazier. Hotelkeeper "Gingin Hotel" 1886, "Ashby" (l880). Member in 1886 Swan Road Board and of 1st Gingin Road board. On Council 1893-1916 and again in 1923. Lived at "Tibberton" for part of holiday home "Creek House". Employed Ah On (also known as Ah Oh) in 1884
