Biographical informationJohn Abbott was born on 9 May 1848 in England to Alfred Abbott, a shopmaster and owner. He arrived in WA in 1868 as mate of the pearler Pilot. His wife accompanied him on voyages. He was a master mariner and carried mails to the North West. He was a trader with D. Paterson and Maurice Smith 1871-1878.He bought the Amy in partnership with George Roe. He conveyed Alexander Forrest on his exploration of the North West in 1879. Mount Abbott was named after him. He was Master of Annie Beaton, owner of Star Queen and First Officer of the Georgette. He was founder of the Fremantle Stevedoring Co. , c. 1895. Resided at Fremantle.
