YUEN CHIN TONG

Description

Biographical informationYuen Chin Tong was born in April 1873 in Canton, China. He migrated to Darwin, Northern Territory Australia in 1891 [1887 in his 1921 papers]. He worked as a miner when he first arrived in the Northern Territory. He moved to Perth, Western Australia in 1897.

He began working as a cabinet maker for the See Wah's Furniture Factory. He left with Wong Ape in 1907 to work at the Wah Hing Furniture Factory.

Together with Wong Ape he started a greengrocer and fruit shop in 1915 at the premises of Cheong & Co. but under the name of "W. Tong". This business was at 437 Hay Street, Perth. They sold the shop and moved to Sydney in 1918 (B).

In Sydney, Yuen Chin Tong set up the W. Tong Cabinet Manufacturers of Sydney. In 1922 he was living at 144 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills, Sydney.Other nameYuen Chin Tong (differentiated name)Date of birthApril 1873
