Biographical informationWong Ape was born in May 1884 (but stated 1881 in 1928) in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in December 1900 (but stated 1898 in 1928). He was five feet six and a quarter inches in height.
He worked as a cabinet maker. In about 1907 he worked for See Wah's Furniture Factory. He left with Yuen Chin Tong to work at the Wah Hing Furniture Factory. In 1911 he was still working as a cabinet maker and either worked or lived at 81 James Street, Perth and leased 2 acres of land (Lots 112 and 117) in the Osborne ward north of Perth.
Together with Yuen Chin Tong, he started a greengrocer and fruit shop in 1915 at the premises of Cheong & Co. but under the name of "W. Tong". This business was at 437 Hay Street, Perth. They sold the shop and moved to Sydney in 1918 (B). In 1928 he was living at 7 Hayward Lane, Melbourne City, Victoria. At that time he still working both a cabinet maker and a market gardener.
