Biographical informationLee Kong Sam (aka Sam Lee Kong) was born in about 1868 in China (exact location unspecified). He was the husband of Violet May Spicer. They were married in 1916 (BDM 4900002/1917).
Lee Kong Sam was charged with have "carnal knowledge" of Violet Spencer when she was under age in August 1906. He was remanded for eight days. They continued their relationship and had three children outside of marriage:
1) William (b. 1909) - who became an accomplished boxer and married Edith Doreen Hazel Avins in Northam in 1937,
2) John Colin (aka Jack) (b. 1913, d. 1967)) married Marjorie Ada Tomkinson in York in 1936,
3) Sydney (b. 1915, d. 1967) who married Olive Emily Jackson in Leederville in 1948.
They had a further four children after they were married in 1916:
4) Edward (b. 1917, d. 1956) who married Jean Sims in Northam in 1937,
5) James Albert (b. 1919, d. 1994) who married Joan Margaret Harrington in Northam in 1938,
6) Dorothy May (b. 1921, d. 2013) - married William Yuen in Perth in March 1939,
7) Edna Mavis (b. 1924, d. 1972) and
8) Jean (b. 1926).
