Biographical informationKie Haw Hay (aka Kee Haw) was born in about 1867 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1891. He was five feet six inches in height.
Around the late 1890s he was a Grocer, working at Hie Toy & Co. He requested a copy of the Chinese Immigration Restriction Act from the government. There are many instances of him assisting Chinese workers - usually market gardeners - apply for Certificates to Return to the Colony between 1897 (when the WA Act was assented to) and 1901 (when the Federal Immigration Act was introduced).
He applied for a Certificate to Return to the Colony in early 1901. He arrived back in Western Australia in 1901.
He worked as a merchant in Perth before travelling overseas in July 1906. He returned to Western Australia in November 1907.
