Biographical informationDe Atta was born in about 1862 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1879.
He worked as a pearl sheller, cook, market gardener and general dealer. Between 1881 and 1883 he was employed by James Hanlon, victualler, at Geraldton.
He was known to William Adlam for 8 years as one of excellent character when De Atta applied for naturalisation in 1889. He was baptised in the Church of England, Geraldton, on 7 February 1889.
