He worked as a shop assistant for Ah Kwong & Co, 349 Murray Street, Perth, in 1916. He worked as a market gardener in Garratt Road, Bayswater, from 1917 to 1919 then he moved to Abernethy Street, Belmont. In 1920 he went to Geraldton and worked as a shop assistant in Marine Terrace.
