He lived at Fremantle 1889-1894, Perth 1894-1901, Guildford 1901-1906 and then worked at Perth. In 1916 he was a shop assistant in Murray Street, Perth.
He worked as a cabinet maker in the Lee Fay Furniture Factory, Roe Street, Perth, in 1918 and then as a market gardener and cook at 815 Wellington Street, Perth. In 1920 he worked for six months at Onslow and two months at Carnarvon before returning to Perth.
