Biographical informationChew Chong (1) was born in about 1858 in China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1892. He was five feet and four inches in height. He left a wife and children in China.

From 1892 to 1901 he held the lease of a market garden at Googee. In 1901 he was working in Fremantle for Chen Hop & Co. (G).

In 1902 he asked whether he could bring his wife, HO Chen and child to Australia and he was told that he could, and that no additional paperwork would be needed. He brought his wife and one child with him when he returned in May 1902. They had two additional children in Australia, both born in Fremantle: 1) a boy - Chong Qurkyun, born 1903 (BDM Reg 2635); 2)a girl - Chong Alice, born in 1904 (BDM Reg 2506).
