Biographical informationCheong Loong Joshua was born in December 1874 in Canton, China. He migrated to Australia in 1890 and moved to Western Australia in 1892. He was five feet and two inches in height.
He worked as a shop keeper. He leased a shop 458 William Street, Perth, and operated a laundry from October 1900 (West Australian, 30 October 1900, p. 8). In 1909, Ratebooks indicate his shop at 388/390 William Street was leased from Thomas Wade.
In 1916, he operated the J. C. Loong Laundry, at 458 William Street, Perth. In 1921, he was recorded as a shop assistant at Chen Hop's store, Market Street, Fremantle. He returned to Perth and worked as a shop keeper in Hun Sun's fruit shop at 388 William Street.
He travelled overseas three times: April 1903 to June 1904; September 1907 to July 1910; and April 1925 to May 1927.
