Biographical informationChan On was born in about 1880 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in 1899. He was five feet and five inches in height. He was the brother of Kow Kee.
Chan On was a shop keeper at the Chan On store, 6 Alexander Road, Fremantle, from at least 1912 to 1918 (E). In January 1919, Chan On worked at the Cheong & Co fruit shop at 437 Hay Street, Perth. He returned to Fremantle in 1920 and stayed with Ah Poy (3), Swan Street, Fremantle, then at the Sing Kee Laundry, 97 South Terrace, Fremantle (B).
Chan On made five visits overseas: October 1908 to November 1909; July 1912 to November 1913 (lost CEDT replaced); February 1917 to November 1918; December 1921 to January 1923; and March 1927 to October 1928.
