He was admitted to the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum in 1893 then transferred to Whitby Falls Branch Asylum in August 1897. He was discharged (?date) and readmitted to Fremantle Asylum on 26 December 1898. He was transferred again to Whitby in February 1900. The cause of insanity was noted as 'opium'.
