When travelling with her husband to Fremantle in 1898, the Inspector of Police in Geraldton had to seek clarification if they came under the terms of the new Immigration Restriction Act. As they had been in the colony for 14 years, the advice was that the Act did not apply to them. (State Records Office file, S675, Cons 527, in file 1900/2118 - but this file has the reference 1898/1691).
