Biographical informationAH CHONG (24) was born c. 1871. He lived in Hong Kong before emigrating to Australia. about 1897 he rented a market garden on H.E.B. Gull's land, Belo Moro, at Guildford, with other Chinese market gardeners.
On 14 March 1901 he started travel to Hong Kong per the 'Karrakatta'. When the 'Karrakatta' was wrecked off Swan Point, at the entrance to King's Sound near Derby, he continued the rest of the journey to Singapore by the 'Saladin.'
In 1901 Gull wrote that Ah Cheong 'was one of the most industrious hard-working men I have met'
