Biographical informationAlfred Shanhun (Shin Hun) was born in Diamond Creek, Victoria, 31 July 1874. He was the son of Cheong Shanhun and Ellen Bolton-Lyons. He was one of 12 children.
He moved to Western Australia in 1904 with brother Arthur and 2 of his sisters Katherine (Kate) and Rose. His widowed mother Ellen joined them soon after.
Alfred farmed at “Adenville” in the King River district, near Albany, and played football for the Albany West Football Club.
He enlisted in WWI in July 1915. He was wounded in France in August 1916 and later declared missing. In April 1917, a court of inquiry determined that he was killed in action in France. His remains were interred at Norfolk Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt (Plot 2, Row B, Grave 13).
At the time of his death, sister Kate was living in Albany, Arthur at Millbrook, King River (near Albany). His eldest brother James was living in Hurstbridge, Victoria. Three other brothers and 5 sisters were all married and living in Victoria.
