Biographical informationBenjamin Franklin (Francis) Helpman (1814-1874), sailor and harbourmaster was born in Devonshire , England. He was appointed captain of the colonial schooner Champion in 1840. He married Ann Pace, daughter of Captain Walter Pace of the East India Co., in 1842 in Fremantle. They had five boys and four girls. He retired in 1854 and moved to Warrnambool in Victoria.
