Biographical informationHarry Whitall Venn (1844-1908) was born 27 October 1844 in South Australia. He was the son of R.C. Venn (of Melbourne), and arrived 2 May 1865 per Warrior at Fremantle. He then travelled to Nickol Bay. He departed for Melbourne 23 November 1866 per Gem. He married Charlotte Shenton (1853-1936), the daughter of George and Ann Catherine (nee Cousins), on 10 December 1874.
He was a member of the Denison Plains Company and a settler of the North West in 1865-75. He bought Roebourne Town Lots 1866-7 and was a Maitland River Justice of the Peace. He held 100,000 acres leasehold. In 1879 he bought a large estate at Bunbury. He was a member of the Legislative Council for Wellington from February 1880 to December 1890. Member of the Legislative Assembly for Wellington December 1890 to March 1896. Commissioner of Railways and Director of Public Works. He contested seat in Federal Parliament 1903. He visited the eastern colonies in 1886,travelled to London and returned in 1888.
