Father owned Staunton Springs and Mount Bakewell, near York, W.A. He was educated at Wesley College, Melbourne. In March, 1884, he left York with his father, brother, and the George Monger with 2000 ewes overland for the Gascoyne River. After two years they sold out, and John Monger and his brother took up Meedo Station, Wooramel, which they had in partnership until his brother's death some years ago. John Monger continued to live on and manage Meedo.
