Biographical informationSing Tay was the wife of Hea Sam. Also known as Neng Youke.
Married Hea San in Singapore in 1885 and came to Fremantle with her husband soon after. Hea San claimed to be, 'the only Chinese who has brought his wife to this colony'. (SRO, S675, Cons 527, 1889/3183).
They had three children:
1) Mary (Chow Ro San), born 1887 (BDM 1887/13);
2) William (Wing Chong), born 1888 (BDM 1888/1187);
3) Maggie (May) born 1890 (BDM 1890/1444).
In the Births, Deaths and Marriages index, her name is spelled variously as Jean RO, Mence SAN and Yean Ko. Hea San's naturalisation file (1889/3183) gives her name as Neng Youke.
