Biographical informationAlfred Ernest Gummow (1860-1909) was born in London.He arrived in Sydney in October 1880 onboard the 'Darling Downs'. By January 1889 Gummow was mining the Golden Crown PC claim on the Brockman River in the West Kimberleys. By 1892 he was associated with the Roebuck Bay Hotel in Broome. he also purchased a fleet of pearling luggers and was engaged in the pearling industry. Gummow married Esther Florence Coleman in 1900. In 1902 he sold his pearling fleet and the Roebuck Bay hotel and bought the Commercial Hotel in Port Hedland. Gummow died in Thursday Iland in 1909. He employed Ah Jew (2) and Ah Ling (8).
