Biographical informationAh Chee Owen was born on the 8th October 1873 in Hainan, China, son of Ah Chee Swan and Twa Twa. He migrated to Western Australia in October 1892 per SS Saladin. He was five feet four and a half inches in height.
He lived and worked in Derby.
Family tradition states that he travelled back to China in 1905 or 1906 without paperwork. On returning he jumped ship in Cossack and was caught. It is said that he married Nellie Loquin on 1st November 1906 in Derby (BDM 1906/002) to avoid being deported back to China. By this time they already three children.
He and Nellie lived together in Derby. They had at least twelve children, six sons and six daughters. He was working as a baker in Derby in October 1939. His home address in 1939 was Clarendon Street, Derby.
