Biographical information Richard Goldsmith Burges was born 4.12.1847 in York and died 25.9.1905 in South Australia. He was the son of Samuel and Vittoria, He married m. Mona Mary Sophia Phillips (1854-1879). She was
the daughter of Samuel and Sophia. Burges had at least seven children: William Goldsmith (b. 1880), Newton Phillips (b.1881), Richard Evans
(b.1883), Samuel Evans (b.1885), Gerald Lockyer (b.1888), Lockier Roe (1890-1929), Mona Albinia (1890-1975). He was a farmer and pastoralist at "Upperary" in York and "Andover" in North West. Employed 3 TIL men 1880- 1883. Visited Eastern colonies, returned in 1881 per Otway. He was a member of the York Road Board 1888-1903, a JP in 1892, a member of the Legislative Assembly East Province (1894-1903) and Member of the Legislative Council York (1903-1905)
