Biographical informationThomas Lewis Bassett, was born 1828 to Thomas Henry Bassett. On 30 January 1859 he married Mary Ann Munday in York. They had at least twelve children: Fanny Maria (1860-1861); Sarah Jane (1862); Thomas Alfred (1864-); Charles Henry (1866); Thomas Henry; Alice Maria (1869-1894); Ernest (1873-1875); George Edward (1878), Frederick William (1880), Alfred Henry (1883), Louis James (1885), William George (1886-).

He owned town lot in Roebourne in 1867. He ran the Leap Year Inn in Roebourne. He also worked as a carpenter & building contractor. In 1883 he employed San Zui but had previously employed other Chinese workers. He employed Wee Ang Hi in 1889.
