Biographical informationDr Henry Calvert Barnett was born 2 October 1832 in Ireland. He was the son of Richard Barnett of Belfast and arrived 5 June 1868 per Lady Louisa with his family. His first wife, Annie, died on 4 July 1879. He then married Emily Winn Stephens on 25 November 1880. The family lived at 13 Barnett Street, Fremantle. He had at least four children: Henry Calvert (1870-),Isabella Margaret Olive (1871-), Florence and Alexander. He went to Canada in 1849. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1855 and entered P & 0 Service, practising initially in China. He travelled to America and Eastern Australia. He was appointed Colonial Surgeon: Appointed Col. Surgeon
at York 1868-72 and Justice of the Peace in 1869. He was in Fremantle between 1872-1895 and was in charge of the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum. In 1894 he was a member of the first Medical Board. In 1891 he left to travel to England on leave. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, President of the Fremantle Rowing Club and President of the Literary Institute for nine years. He employed Hon as a servant in 1879. He presented collection of Chinese coins and a Bank note to the Mechanics Institute in 1880.
