Biographical informationSir Alexander James Reid, CMG, ISO, JP, BA, Hon.LLD, FASA, was born in Glasgow and arrived in Western Australia in 1909 with his widowed mother and four siblings. He graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Arts in 1924.
He joined the WA public service as a messenger boy in 1911 and rose to be Under-Treasurer in 1934. Reid joined the UWA Senate as an ex-officio member in 1944. He was Pro-Chancellor 1948-1956 and Chancellor from 1956-1962.
The Reid Library on UWA Crawley Campus is named in his honour.
Senate Resolution 286 of 1963 states:
