Biographical informationSir Walter Forbes Logie Murdoch, KCMG, CBE, MA, Hon.DLitt, was born in 1874 in Scotland and came to Australia with his family in 1884. He was taught by his father in Scotland and at schools in Hastings and Melbourne. Murdoch graduate from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours in Logic and Philosophy in 1894 and gained hi MA in 1897. After owning schools at Camberwell and Warnambool, he was appointed Assistant Lecturer in English at Melbourne University in 1903.
He was appointed as Foundation Professor of English at UWA in 1913. He served as Vice-Chancellor 1916-1917, a member of UWA Senate 1917-1948 and Chancellor 1943-1948.
Murdoch was knighted in 1964.
