Biographical informationYou Chong was born in October 1877 in Canton, China. He migrated to Western Australia in December 1895. He was about five feet seven inches in height.

He worked as a shop assistant at Roebourne in 1905. He was recorded as a market gardener at Roebourne in 1907, 1916 and 1940. Between 1922 and 1930 he worked as a cook (E).

He travelled overseas six times: October 1907 to October 1909; March 1914 to June 1915; March 1918 to March 1919; April 1921 to June 1922; May 1925 to July 1926; and February 1930 to October 1931.
